Bromley Group delivers earthworks and excavation services across Auckland for residential, commercial, and subdivision projects. We handle the full scope of site preparation - from initial clearing and bulk excavation through to trimming, shaping, subgrade preparation, and compaction ready for the next trade.
Auckland's ground conditions aren't forgiving. Heavy clay, high moisture content, and variable site access mean earthworks need to be properly planned and properly executed from day one. Poor preparation creates problems that follow a build all the way through - settlement, drainage failures, and foundations that don't perform. We focus on getting the fundamentals right before anything else goes in the ground.
We work closely with engineers, surveyors, and project managers to make sure earthworks are sequenced correctly, levels are accurate, and the site is handed over ready for whatever comes next.

What sets our earthworks apart
Anyone with a digger can move dirt. The difference is in how accurately the work is done and how well it sets up the stages that follow.
Accurate levels and falls
We work to design drawings and survey data — not approximations. Every surface is checked before we hand it over.
Engineer and surveyor coordination
We work directly from engineering drawings and coordinate inspections at the right hold points.
Compaction to specification
We coordinate testing where required and condition material correctly for Auckland's clay-heavy soils.
Programme-focused delivery
Earthworks hold up every other trade. We plan our sequencing to keep the programme moving and flag early if conditions change.
Who we work with
Homeowners
Site preparation for new builds, additions, driveway formation, and section reshaping. We explain the process clearly and keep your site tidy throughout.
Developers
Staged bulk earthworks for multi-lot subdivisions and civil development packages. We understand consent conditions and council hold points.
Builders & main contractors
Reliable earthworks subcontractor who can read drawings, meet programme, and hand over a site that's genuinely ready for foundations.
Engineers & consultants
We work to specification, coordinate with testing providers, and provide documentation to support compliance sign-off at each stage.

Common questions
How much do earthworks cost in Auckland?
Earthworks pricing depends on too many variables to give a meaningful number without seeing the site — ground conditions, access, volumes, disposal requirements, and what the finished surface needs to achieve all affect the cost significantly. We provide site-specific pricing based on your drawings and a site visit. Get in touch and we'll come back with a clear scope and price.
Do I need consent for earthworks in Auckland?
It depends on the scale and location of the works. Generally, earthworks over 250m² or 500m³ require a resource consent under Auckland Council's Unitary Plan. Subdivision earthworks almost always require consent. Smaller residential works may not — but it's worth checking early. We can help guide you through what's likely required for your project.
Can you remove and dispose of excavated material?
Yes. We manage excavation, cartage, and disposal as part of our scope — including cleanfill disposal and approved tip facilities where required. If material can be reused on site (cut to fill), we'll plan for that to reduce disposal costs.
How do Auckland's ground conditions affect earthworks?
Auckland's clay soils are highly sensitive to moisture — they can become unworkable quickly in wet conditions and need proper conditioning before compaction. This affects programme timing, methodology, and sometimes the need for imported fill. We factor this into our planning and keep you informed if conditions on site change the approach.
Do you coordinate with geotechnical engineers and surveyors?
Yes. We work directly from engineering drawings and geotechnical reports, coordinate testing and inspections at required hold points, and provide supporting documentation for compliance sign-off. If you don't have a geotech yet, we can point you in the right direction.
