We coordinate our earthworks with survey control, geotechnical requirements, design levels (RLs) and other site activities. For subdivision projects, we coordinate the earthworks with the wider civil scope.

Subgrade & Foundation Preparation
Subgrade condition has a direct effect on the performance of building platforms, slabs and pavements. Preparation requirements vary depending on the existing soils, intended loading, geotechnical recommendations and project specification. Following bulk excavation, we prepare the formation to the required level and address unsuitable or unstable areas identified during construction or testing. Depending on the project, the work may include:
- Proof rolling or visual assessment of formation
- Removal and replacement of unsuitable material
- Subgrade improvement or stabilisation where specified
- Placement and compaction of engineered fill or aggregate
- Trimming to design levels
- Field density or other testing where required
- Coordination with the geotechnical engineer at specified hold points
Testing requirements and acceptance criteria are determined by the project specification, geotechnical recommendations and intended use of the completed platform. Yes. Rock excavation can be included where required, using suitable excavation or breaking equipment for the material and site conditions. Where rock is known or suspected, it is identified as a specific pricing consideration because actual quantities and hardness may not be known until excavation begins.
Compaction requirements vary by project. We work to the acceptance criteria specified by the geotechnical engineer, project drawings or applicable specification, and coordinate the required testing where included in our scope. NZS 4431:2022 may apply where specified, for engineered fill supporting lightweight structures.
Yes. Our scope can include excavation, cartage and disposal to an appropriate facility. Where suitable excavated material can be reused on site, we can incorporate this into the cut-and-fill plan subject to the project requirements and material suitability.

Auckland Unitary Plan requirements vary by zone, activity, overlays and proximity to sensitive environments. The consent position should be confirmed for the specific property before work begins.
